BIOGRAPHY

Yu Chinen is a Mezzo-soprano from Okinawa, Japan. She is currently in the first year of her postgraduate degree at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) and studying with Deborah Rees. Her studies are generously supported by Alice Orrell and A&N Kendall Award.

Yu studied musicology at the Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts (OPUA), and afterwards as an exchange student at the University of Milano Bicocca in Italy. After completing her bachelor's degree, she commenced a master’s course in Vocal Studies at the OPUA.

Yu is also member of the RNCM chamber and Hallé choir in season of 2024/25.

In addition to her vocal work, Yu has studied ballet and contemporary dance since the age of nine, and greatly enjoys all forms of dance.
